About NameChart
NameChart gives every name a free, complete popularity chart — no ads, no paywall, no signup. Other sites lock trend data behind subscriptions; we believe public-domain data should stay public.
Data sources
All national data comes from the U.S. Social Security Administration baby names dataset (1880–2025), which is in the public domain. State rankings come from the SSA state-level dataset. Names given to fewer than 5 babies of a gender in a year are excluded at the source to protect privacy.
Note on wording: our “Peak year” is the year with the most babies given a name. SSA’s “most popular year” refers to the year a name achieved its highest rank, so the two can differ. Data snapshot: SSA release covering births through 2025.
Methodology
- Charts show raw births per year, split by gender.
- Ranks are computed per year per gender across all recorded names.
- “Unisex” = at least 25% of all-time births are each gender.
- Trend = rank change over the last 5 years (top-1000 names).
